The South West (UK) Linux User Group is now closed

The South West LUG has decided to call it a day. We came a long way since our first meeting in November 2001 and hopefully managed to help some people during our short life.

Firstly I'd like to thank all our members who made the LUG what it is. I'd like to thank everyone who came to the meetings, everyone who gave talks, the 256 registered users of this website and the various venues who kindly allowed us to use their facilities for meetings.

I'd also specifically like to thank Rick Timmis who has been involved since the beginning and also Ylem for their valuable contributions including the hosting of a meeting.

Users requiring a LUG in Devon or Cornwall should visit the DCLUG. Those from other parts of the South West can find a list of LUGs here.

Thank you again to everyone who helped make SWLUG a success.

A radio station for Linux users? Its true!
Humour admin writes "There is a new online radio show aimed at Linux users in the UK.
LugRadio is four Linux fans - Jono Bacon, Stuart Langridge, Stephen Parkes and Matthew Revell - sitting around and talking about the world of open source software. From the slightly more serious, to the entirely frivolous, this is internet radio by and for ordinary Linux users, who can laugh at themselves.

Episode 1 has been available for the last week and Epsode 2 has just been released!
Get LugRadio here."

System recovery with Knoppix: What to do when good disks go bad
Linux admin writes "There's an article over at IBM about how to access a non-booting Linux system with a Knoppix CD, get read-write permissions on configuration files, create and manage partitions and filesystems, and copy files to various storage media and over the network.

 Goodbye Redhat Linux, Hello Fedora
Red Hat admin writes "Redhat have announced that there will be no more home-user releases of Redhat Linux. The company wishes to re-focus on their business desktop and server offerings.

In related news, Redhat is to stop supporting and releasing updates for older releases of Redhat Linux up to and including 8.0 on the 31st December.

But don't fear, Redhat Linux shall live on as the Redhat-sponsored Fedora project. Version 1 has just been released (what would have maybe-eventually been the next Redhat release), download it here (UK mirror). It can even upgrade your existing Redhat installation."
