 Goodbye Redhat Linux, Hello Fedora
Red Hat admin writes "Redhat have announced that there will be no more home-user releases of Redhat Linux. The company wishes to re-focus on their business desktop and server offerings.

In related news, Redhat is to stop supporting and releasing updates for older releases of Redhat Linux up to and including 8.0 on the 31st December.

But don't fear, Redhat Linux shall live on as the Redhat-sponsored Fedora project. Version 1 has just been released (what would have maybe-eventually been the next Redhat release), download it here (UK mirror). It can even upgrade your existing Redhat installation."

 Red Hat Sues SCO
Red Hat admin writes "Red Hat, in response to the recent SCO silliness, has announced that it intends to sue the SCO Group to prove that Linux does not violate SCO's intellectual property.
They have also set up the 'Open Source Now' fund which will be used to fight this and future legal battles.

"We filed this complaint to stop SCO from making unsubstantiated and untrue public statements attacking Red Hat Linux and the integrity of the Open Source software development process," said Mark Webbink, General Counsel at Red Hat, in a statement."

 No more boxed Red Hat
Red Hat admin writes "According to a story at Linux and Main, Redhat are shortly to announce that they are discontinuing the retail box version of their Linux distribution.
Personally, I expect this will only extend to the Personal and Professional editions, whereas the more expensive enterprise-level boxed sets will continue to be available.

This story will be updated with more details when Redhat make their official announcement which is expected on Monday."

 ClarkConnect 1.0 Released
Red Hat benjamin writes "One day, I hope to see a dedicated section for ClarkConnect - a do-it-yourself firewall/server solution for the home or small office and based on Red Hat Linux.

There's a lot going on at Point Clark Networks, sponsors of the open-source software. With the release of 1.0, the free dynamic DNS service remains the same, but all services have been moved over to MinimizeIT, a remote management portal also by Point Clark Networks that ties in nicely to the OS platform. The first 'commercial' version of ClarkConnect is due to be released this month, a 'blackbox' development platform has been initiated (for those looking to develop their own gateway platform) and a developer/partner network is in final beta to help push the idea of services via broadband using Point Clark Networks Suva technology."
