Software Patents: The battle was won, but the war has hardly begun
Patents admin writes "After the protests in Brussels this week and online it has been announced that the "McCarthy report" , discussing the patentability of "computer-implemented inventions", including software methods and techniques, has been withdrawn pending "further examination at committee level".

This is certainly a victory, but there is more work to be done. You can help by signing the petition.

See here for more information on the dangers of software patents."

Note: This hasn't been officially announced yet. The source for this is the European Parliament Office in Ireland.

Patents admin writes "Please support the fight against software patents by signing the petition.
You can also close your website on the 27th of September in protest (this site will be closed) or even join the demonstration in Brussels.

To find out more information see the Foundation for Free Information Infrastructure.
